The “International Conference on Biomechanics combined with the Annual Scientific Meeting of Taiwanese Society of Biomechanics” held in National Yang Ming University, Taipei, Taiwan on November 9–11, 2001 has been successfully ended. This conference was fully supported by the International Society of Biomechanics and the Taiwanese Society of Biomechanics. A total of 149 papers were presented in this conference, including 85 oral presentations and 64 poster presentations. The main topics included Orthopaedic Biomechanics, Rehabilitation Biomechanics, Sports Biomechanics, Dental and Cellular Biomechanics, and Ergonomics. The world-renowned experts were also invited to deliver special lectures. They are Professors Robert Allen (UK), Richard A. Brand (USA), Jia Hua (UK), Kim A. Burton (UK), Christopher Vaughan (South Africa), and Ronald Zernicke (Canada). We also invited some excellent researchers and representatives from Asian countries. There were 302 participants who attended this conference from 14 countries. This conference has brought together multidisciplinary researchers to discuss the latest breakthrough in biomechanics. It was also a significant event for the Asian region. In order to report the achievement of this conference and to communicate with international researchers and clinical colleagues, the organizing committee invited some participants to publish their research results in this special issue of Clinical Biomechanics.
